Adding Two Digit Numbers

Learner:    Elnaz           Learning Coach:  M Lennon              Date: 25 May 2017
Learning Area:  iDevelop (Numeracy)
NZC Achievement Objectives:   Level 1 Number and Algebra; Number Strategies
Students will use a range of counting, grouping, and equal-sharing strategies with whole numbers and fractions.
Learning Observed
During iDevelop Elnaz has been learning to add two digit numbers together by counting on from the bigger number.

Elnaz demonstrated capable thinking and perseverance and was able to quickly adapt to the new learning.  Elnaz began by using a numberline to make single jumps forward, then attempting to make jumps in both tens and ones to make solving the problem easier.

As the numbers grew bigger, Elnaz began to source materials and make connections by reverting back to previously learned strategies in order to solve more difficult problems.
Evidence of learning

Next Learning Steps
  • Keep practising making jumps in both tens and ones.
  • Begin subtracting two digit numbers from a larger number.
  • Consider other ways to solve problems involving larger numbers.
